Domestic Workers
Domestic workers play an important role in the socio-economic landscape of Bangladesh. They often
serve as the backbone of many households. These dedicated individuals undertake various
household tasks, such as cleaning, cooking, childcare, and even elderly care, etc. And, thus they
provide essential support to families and ensure the smooth functioning of homes across the
country. Despite their significant contribution to society, domestic workers face many challenges.
Many are subjected to low wages, long working hours, and limited legal protections. This condition
makes them vulnerable to exploitation and abuse. Moreover, a lack of formal recognition and
regulation further increases their vulnerable status. To deal with these issues, it is essential for the
government and society to recognize the rights of domestic workers. It is furthermore essential to
ensure fair wages, safe working conditions, and access to social security for them. In addition,
promoting education and awareness about the importance of their work can foster greater respect
and appreciation for the invaluable services domestic workers provide. However, empowering this
workforce through these moves will not only enhance their well-being but also contribute to a more
equitable and just society.
